The invention relates to a method for preventing and detecting refrigerant spills from complex hydraulic systems. The object is achieved to design such a method such that it meets in particular requirements for avoiding / limiting the formation of explosive atmospheres in work areas and for reducing measures from previously customary requirements from Ex zones. This is achieved by dividing a leading-cycle refrigerant into small volumes having shut-off valves and a safety valve, whereby a leak-detection diagnosis can be performed by means of an integratable pressure sensor.
