The device (10) has a main relay (20) comprising spring contacts (26) and a fixed contact (27), and a change relay (30) coupled with the main relay. The change relay comprises a switching spring contact (36), an opener fixed contact (39) and a closer fixed contact (37), at which a load current circuit is switched on. A control electronics unit (40) is formed to control the main relay and the change relay such that the change relay is switched in a load-free manner. The main relay comprises a blow magnet and a bridge closer. The spring contact and the fixed contact are designed as work contacts or normally-closed contacts.
