The power supply unit (10) has first output terminal pair (12) for coupling with a first circuit, while second output terminal pair (14) is provided for coupling with second circuit. A battery (16) has output coupled to first terminal pair. A DC-DC converter (18) has input coupled to battery output, while output of converter is coupled with second terminal pair. The converter is designed to convert first voltage of battery to second voltage which is smaller than first voltage, such that battery output is directly connected to converter input.
