The method involves determining the existing speed limit and a driving speed of the vehicle (10) and outputting a warning signal of a type when the driving speed of the vehicle is more than the driving speed permitted with respect to the speed limit. The reaction of the driver to the warning signal is determined. The output of a warning signal of another type is delayed or the output of the warning signal of the latter type is prevented depending on the reaction of the driver to the warning signal of the former type. An independent claim is included for a vehicle with a warning device.
