The device (1) has a biasing element (13) for applying a finger scanner (7) with a force in a direction, so that the linear movement is provided to the finger scanner. A plate (2) is provided for receiving a workpiece to be machined (4), while another plate (3) is provided for receiving a profile (6). The biasing element provided as a pneumatic cylinder is arranged to act perpendicular to a longitudinal direction (L) of the finger scanner. The finger scanner is connected to the tool (9) through a linear guide (10). The completion of the machining operation is detected by a sensor. An independent claim is included for a method for machining the workpieces.
