The pipe element has several thermal radiation-technically effective coatings (1b,1c) that are partially provided in the exhaust gas flow-facing side (I) and the exhaust gas flow opposite side (A) of a pipe element component (1). The thermal radiation-technically effective coatings are formed using reflective material. An independent claim is included for a method of thermally insulating pipe element.
