The method involves positioning two hollow sections (10,12) relative to each other such that a desired sweat gap is formed between the hollow section ends to both hollow sections and is filled with to-be-melted welding material. The hollow sections are welded at the hollow section ends under filling of the sweat gap with the melted material. The positioning of the two hollow sections is carried out using an intermediate adapter (14) mated together with the hollow sections, for defining a breadth (B) of the sweat gap. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) intermediate adapter for welding hollow sections; and (2) hollow section construction.
