The turbocharger is mounted on a shaft (4) in a turbine housing that is provided with an inlet area for the hot exhaust gases, a nozzle area (2) and a trailing edge area. The ratio of the effective cross sectional area of the nozzle area and the effective cross-sectional area of the trailing edge area is smaller than 0.6. The roughness of the inner surface of the turbine housing acted with the hot exhaust gases is less than 40 microns. The effective cross-sectional area of the trailing edge area is approximated by the minimum geometric cross sectional area (A6').
