The method involves receiving a mathematical model (20) of a vessel segment of a patient, where the mathematical model has a patient-specific boundary condition. The patient-specific boundary condition is optimized. A real, two-dimensional angiographic exposure series of the vessel segment of the patient and a virtual angiography are received in the optimization of a contrast agent propagation. The blood flow within the vessel segment of the patient is simulated by a computational fluid dynamics simulation. A form and position of a flow-changing implant (29) are received within the vessel segment of the patient. The blood flow within the vessel segment of the patient with the placed flow-changing implant is simulated by the computational fluid dynamics simulation. An independent claim is included for a device for supporting the design of an implantation of a flow-changing implant.
