There is provided a hybrid powertrain for a vehicle having a first axis and a second axis. The hybrid powertrain includes a machine, a fixed member and an electrically variable transmission having a first and a second planetary gear set connected to each other and a first and a second motor / generator. The engine, the first motor / generator, the second motor / generator and the first axle are each operatively connectable for rotation with another member of the first and second planetary gear sets. The drive train has an electric drive unit, which has a reduction gear and a third motor / generator. The third motor / generator and the second axle are each operatively connected to another member of the third planetary gear set. The powertrain is operable in a combined power-split mode of operation.
