The method involves selecting a region of interest of a luminescent sample (100), where the region of interest is formed of pixels. The region of interest is excited (200) with a pulsated light source whose intensity is modulated according to a given frequency. Photons emitted by the region of interest are detected (210). Life-time of decay of luminescence intensity of the sample is determined, where different frequencies are utilized to determine life-time characterizing the decay luminescence intensity of the sample in each pixel. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for analyzing transfer of energy between a donor and an acceptor (2) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for determination of life-time of decay of luminescence intensity of a luminescent sample (3) an installation for determination of life-time of decay of luminescence intensity of a luminescent sample.
