The device has a base (6) that is intended to be arranged in a housing adjacent to a basin (1). A hub (5) is movably mounted on the base between a retracted position in which the hub is arranged within the housing, and an extended position in which the hub is arranged outside the housing. The hub is received in a casing that is integral with lateral ends of a set of slides (9a, 9b). A set of drive units (10) e.g. motors, synchronously slides a set of sliders (7a, 7b) within respective slides. An independent claim is also included for a method for using a device for covering and uncovering a basin.
