The device (U) has a digital camera for collecting an image (j) from a support (S) using an optical system (5), where the image comprises an image portion (i) generated by an encoding unit (2) from data (D) obtained using a human-machine interface (1) or a file processing unit (1'). A decoding unit (6) searches the presence of two-dimensional codes in the image, and decodes the image if the two-dimensional codes are present in the image, so as to restore the data. A display system (7) e.g. screen, and a voice synthesis system (8) or a Braille system (9) deliver the data to a user. An independent claim is also included for a method for communicating written and sound information using images.
