PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault detection system for an overspeed protection system of a rotating machine.SOLUTION: The system includes a first, a second, and a third speed sensor sensing a speed of a shaft of the rotating machine. The system includes a first input configured to receive a first pulse 115 train from the first speed sensor 110, a second input configured to receive a second pulse 125 train from the second speed sensor 120, a third input configured to receive a third pulse 135 train from the third speed sensor 130, and a processor 140 configured to generate a shutdown signal for the rotating machine based on the first pulse train, the second pulse train, and the third pulse train.
