PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a graphite negative electrode material for lithium secondary battery use which is high in tap density and less in fine powder amount, a manufacturing method thereof, and a negative electrode for lithium secondary battery use and a lithium secondary battery that are arranged by use of the graphite negative electrode material.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a graphite negative electrode material for lithium secondary battery use comprises the steps of: using a pitch material including 20 mass% or less of quinoline insoluble as a material to perform a thermal treatment of the material; conglobating the material subjected to the thermal treatment; baking the material subjected to the conglobation; and graphitizing the material subjected to the baking according to circumstances. In the graphite negative electrode material for lithium secondary battery use, the average circularity is 0.90 or larger; the average total number of particles is 3×10/g or less; the ratio (d/d) of a 90%-particle diameter to a 10%-particle diameter in a volume-based particle size distribution is 1.5-2.8; and the minimum particle diameter (d) is 3.5 m or larger.
