The present invention provides a diameter expansion retaining device formed by a core rope and a diameter expansion retaining method for an ambient temperature shrinkage tube using the diameter expansion retaining device. When a core rope is used to form the diameter expansion retaining device, the ambient temperature shrinkage tube can be retained in a diameter expansion state in transporting or in site operation even though there is no soldering performed. The diameter expansion retaining device (1) formed by the core rope (10) is constructed by inlaying a first convex portion (23) of a part (12) of the core rope (10) with a second concave portion (26) of a part (11) of the core rope (10) arranged adjacently, and inlaying a first concave portion (25) of the part (12) of the core rope (10) with a second convex portion (24) of the part (11) of the core rope (10) arranged adjacently, thereby making up the aforementioned diameter expansion retaining device.
