PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stainless steel fiber sintered compact excellent in ventilation characteristics and a heat exchange performance, and the heat regeneration member of a Stirling engine related to the application.;SOLUTION: The stainless steel fiber sintered compact for the high temperature is the sintered compact provided with a porous structure and used for the use of a high temperature environment of a temperature of ≥300°C, the compact is composed of random distribution and sintering of stainless steel fibers having an average equivalent diameter of 5-50 μm and the average length of 30-2,000 times of the diameter, an average hole diameter is 1-40 μm, and heat shielding efficiency (η) by an expression η=1-(a discharge temperature (T1) on the downstream side/the temperature (T0) of feed heated air on the upper surface side) when heated fluid heated to the temperature (T0°C) is fed from one primary surface to the other secondary surface side at a feed pressure of 10 Pa is 60-95%.
