PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the likelihood for another obstacle trying to cross ahead of its own vehicle to interfere with its own vehicle right after the obstacle crosses ahead of its own vehicle. PSOLUTION: A controller, when its own vehicle is stopped or is in a deceleration state immediately before it is stopped and there is an obstacle crossing ahead of its own vehicle ("YES" at steps S1, S2), measures a time spent until a driver begins to intend to start after the obstacle finishes crossing ahead of the vehicle (steps S3 to S6). The controller then supports avoidance operation of the driver with respect to a vehicle ahead on the basis of the measurement result (steps S6, S7). Thus, by supporting the driver's avoidance operation when a time spent until the driver begins to intend to start is short after the obstacle finishes crossing ahead the vehicle, the likelihood for another vehicle trying to cross ahead of its own vehicle to interfere with its own vehicle is decreased.
