P To examine physical properties of a straight line-shaped polyethylene terephthalate having a sulfone group and which is obtained by synthesizing dimethyl 2-sulfoterephthalate sodium with a purity of 98.0% and adding the same to a polycondensation system of dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol. PSOLUTION: A method for synthesizing dimethyl 2-sulfoterephthalate sodium with a purity of 98.0%, by sulfonating terephthalic acid with sulfur trioxide, then at first removing excessive sulfur trioxide, conducting esterification to produce dimethyl ester, and via treatment with a calcium hydroxide suspended aqueous solution and with a sodium carbonate saturated aqueous solution and is found. The straight line-shaped polyethylene terephthalate having a sulfone group is synthesized by adding dimethyl 2-sulfoterephthalate sodium to the polycondensation system of dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol.
