PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ionic liquid of a metal-complex type comprising a metal ion acting as a cationic center and an imidazole derivative and a nitrile group-containing compound coordinated thereto, and an easy production method thereof, and to provide an application method of the ionic liquid, whereby metal nanoparticles can be produced by reduction.;SOLUTION: The production method of the ionic liquid of the metal-complex type comprises mixing of a compound (A) containing a monovalent metal cation with a monoalkylimidazole (B) in an organic medium comprising a nitrile group-containing compound (C).
