PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact substrate type optical waveguide device with short length while achieving high functionality.;SOLUTION: In a substrate type optical waveguide element, a part (e.g. a lower part of a substrate side) 12 of the side wall of a core 10 of an optical waveguide has a Bragg grating pattern structure (first Bragg grating pattern) alternately having a horizontal wide projection 12b and a narrow recess 12a. Furthermore, a second Bragg grating pattern 13 is positioned in a region different from the first Bragg grating pattern in a cross section orthogonal to a light guide direction, and may be formed in a region arranged along the light guide direction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
