PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the contamination of alien eels by the treatment of the whole group without requiring the survey carried out on each individual.SOLUTION: The primer set comprises a forward-side primer comprising a specific base sequence hybridizable with a prescribed region in a cytochrome b gene of the eel of non-Japonica species, or a base sequence (with the proviso that T may be U) complementary to the base sequence, and a reverse-side primer comprising a specified base sequence or a base sequence (with the proviso that T may be U) complementary to the base sequence. The method for inspecting the contamination of the eel of the non-Japonica species, and the method for identifying the species of the eel of the non-Japonica species use the primer set. The primer set amplifies a DNA derived from the alien eel regardless of the kinds but does not amplify the DNA derived from the eel of the Japanese race.
