PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide encapsulated inorganic microparticles having high dispersion stability in a coating or printing composition even when used in the composition having properties suitable to e.g. ink-jet printing method, to provide a method for producing the microparticles, To provide such a coating composition containing the microparticles, and to provide such a printing composition containing the microparticles. PSOLUTION: The encapsulated inorganic microparticles are such that inorganic microparticles are coated with a polymer-based wall material, wherein the inorganic microparticles are surface-modified with a silane coupling agent and the polymer is made from at least one ionic and polymerizable surfactant bearing ionic group, hydrophobic group and polymerizable group and at least one polymerizable monomer. The coating composition containing the encapsulated inorganic microparticles and the printing composition containing the encapsulated inorganic microparticles are also provided, respectively.
