The invention relates to a system of sensors intended to monitor and warn on the attempts to damage the strategic electric power transport infrastructure and to a method for selectively detecting the same. According to the invention, the system consists of a central unit (MCU) to which there are connected some vibration sensors (SV1, SV2, SV3, SV4, SRV), an ultraviolet radiation sensor (SUV), a sensor (SPU) for detecting the human presence in the proximity of a pillar, all these sensors being mounted on the structure of a supporting pillar, a radio data transmission system (IRF), a power supply source (PS) and a dispatch for data reception and processing. The method, as claimed by the invention, comprises the comparative measuring of vibrations caused by illegal activities detected at the ground level by four sensors mounted on the edges of the supporting pillar and the vibrations caused by random atmospheric phenomena detected by a reference sensor mounted at a certain height, so that it is not affected by the activities carried on at the ground level and the correlation of human presence with the signals received from the ultraviolet radiation sensor and the signals received from the vibration sensors to avoid false alarms.
