In addition to modernization of Burnaby General Hospital with a Medical Schoolin collaboration withBCIT and SFU...we are also proposing the largest cancer treatment and researchcentre in WestVancouver (soon to be developed Hospital). The West Vancouver Hospital couldbe tied to a ship-hospitalequipped for all time and threat importance treatments and a helicopter, thatcan reach thepatients first (ie. helijets) that carry the patients from remote locations tothe ship-hospital that lagsbehind in speed but can also act as fuel refill for the helicopter. Areaserved include (collaboration withComox Hospital) - also we can upgrade North of Vancouver Island, the GulfIslands...North of PowellRiver, even help Whistler/Blackcomb...and other communities of BC.Many of the Ideas' purpose are to enhance better quality of life for Staff(Doctors and Nurses...) andpatients which was the reason given by nurses I spoke with that made oneBritish Columbia's MedicalFacility elected best employer in British Columbia):1. We offer a design of 360 degree nursing stations, with the center interiorspace for the nurses'downtime (such a space nurses have told me are important in awards foremployerexcellence)...one part for rest and the other for escape ie. video games,movies, internetbrowsing. The 360 degree design allows less nurses to cover more ground.2. Rooms come with cameras (possibly with night vision to save nurses timewasted walking fromroom to room doing rounds which often don't do much to help anybody)... toaddress privacyissues, we could give the patients the schedule of times they would bechecking up and a amberlight goes on before the camera goes on and a green light indicates the camerais on. A centralcam station can be responsible for monitoring all the rooms (with availabilityof patient needsand conditions.3. A separate thermostat heater/air conditioner in every room with a maximumupper and lowerlocked limit so temperature not too extreme and controllable over a rangewhile not wastingenergy (abuse use).4. I have been pushing for Burnaby General Hospital to collaborate with BCITand SFU to createjoint Medical School. (for a longtime now).. (one objection I ran across) topay for it (my groupcould finance the facilities), then we could initially charge high tuition forthose who can affordit, with the promise that tuition rates will lower as we breakeven from theinitial setup costs (orwe could do an initial public offering). Some Courses can be offered on-lineas well. If we cutthe 4 years of initial science studies, and offer entry into medical schoolearlier, it may make ourschool more popular and we can churn out (focus on quality, reliability - ie.we could studywhat characteristics makes the best performer for every type of doctor - notjust perseverance).5. For patients not on serious spacial diets, we could have a part of thecafeteria coordinated withmenus of all the nearby restaurants, the patients orders and gives their roomnumber and nameand ward to a restaurant delivery logistics center which then sends the foodas it arrives to thehospital to the patients' room. For those who don't want delivery we couldoffer economymeals, middle class and first class meals; cafeteria serving bubble tea.6. Hotel minibar mini refrigerators can be rolled to rooms that want it anddesignated shopper cango out and grocery shop for the patients to stock the mini fridge.7. Joint movie (small ie. home theater for patients and staff forprofessionalism, staff seating canbe up stairs and patients lower floor).8. Hotel and condos, for patients with chronic conditions, visitors over time,people at high risk(ie. seniors of hip falling injury or compromised immune systems), peoplewaiting forprocedures, pregnant women about to give birth, and doctors and nurses wantinga place nearbywork to rest (avoid commute).9. Serious patients with panic button to hand around their neck, for patientswith roamingprivileges but are fragile to falling and breaking bones or dementia or arenot allowed outsidethe hospital we could have them carry (ie. strapped location finding chips)and/or house arrestleg bans that trigger alarms when the patient leaves hospital grounds.Foe people with Chronic Pain, for a better quality of life for people withterminal illness, forpeople, for people trying needing physiotherapy (ie. spinal cord injury), forpeople sufferingwith depression and anxiety, PTSD, morning sickness, any and all discomfort(there can be asection for staff).10. Sell decks of cards, jigshaw puzzles, DVD mobile movie players, boardgames for patients inmedium to long stay and staff volunteers that teach games like bridge,senduko...to patients andstaff.11. Photograph vending machines, for patients wanting a memento of their stay,and/or terminally12. Pet therapy - proven to lower stress/anxiety/depression which inthemselves are diseases butlower stress also enhances quality of life for the terminally ill and alsolower stress helps fightimmune related diseases also cures loneliness (pets human relationships basedon affection) andmay help illness such as the shaking (from lateral sclerose) and also may helpaddicts.13. Roof top with garden acrylic bubble (especially good for SeasonalAffective Disorder) sundeck/lounging chairs - proven to lower stress/anxiety/depression which inthemselves arediseases but lower stress also enhances quality of life for the terminally illand also lower stresshelps fight immune related diseases also cures loneliness (pets humanrelationships based onaffection) and may help illness such as the shaking (from lateral sclerose)and also may helpaddicts.14. Insteadof the hospitalordering so many magaimes, e-devices can be offered with access to subscribednewspapers,magazines and any and all periodicals of interests.18. A lounge for patients/visitors and staff with library of e-readers withlocal hospital database ofreading materials).19. For doctors and support that have proven they can handle it and have theirown best practicescollaborative helping each other in their unique challenges, we could usehospital equipmentthat would normally be unused at night to perform procedures from surgeries toscanningequipment...whereby patients that are willing to pay the highest premium, bidon the doctors fornighttime procedures (since the premium is high - also ensures shorter line-upwhich givespatients incentive to pay higher price - and it gives capable and willingdoctors incentive) as thepatients who had their procedures done at night (on equipment that wouldotherwise lie aroundwasted in unused), the taken patient free up space for procedures done duringthe daytime. Alsoby using equipment at night the equipment and facilities can bring in twice ormore revenues.20. Another possibility is a gym (basketball, badminton court) for patientsand staff, especiallypatients with physical disabilities, that doubles as pharmaceutical conferencevenue, soupkitchen stage for live shows...local artists, musicians, events celebrationsHalloween,Christmas...And if the Emergency Room and any all space ie. Beds becomeoverloaded witheasy erection of separators for patient privacy and peace and we can drape offpart the gym forimmediate care needs versus therapeutic physical uses and/or any and allfunctions pertaining tohospital and also hospital outreach to the community..21. An events/activities Bulletin Board in visible locations.22. Shuttle Bus for outings (Beach) barbeque, to the shopping mall,restaurants...have patientssuggest. Bus Loop with outdoor heater.23. Mini golf.24. Internet Cafe.25. In the Surgery the old scalpels can be replaced with better qualityknives, ie. short fish filletknife and/or KUWN RIKON (Switzerland) and other sharper and stronger knivesthan theexisting scalpels.26. The entire hospital can be designed like a Starbuck's cafe or FairmontHotels (interior andexterior) even different popular themes for each hospital..27. The research part of the hospital can raise money by Foundation that sellslottery tickets andscratch and win, the tickets are categorized the disease (also adopt a causeto fight categories ofillness)...sold like Lotto 649.28. Offer one stop shop for Dentists, Dieticians, Optometrists, health food(ie. calories...protein formuscle workouts to strengthen for general health and/or those who's muscleshave becomeflaccid after sickness and treatments and/or losing weight).29. We could have a large assortment of gifts so different patients can getdifferent presentsespecially gifts that have a very long shelf life.30. We plan to develop a database for doctors to sort through so they canbring a laptop alongduring rounds to demonstrate why they give the diagnosis and specifically thesymptoms thatmatch. The symptoms of the illness (most often abnormal physical sensationsand/or abnormallooks for an area skin placement on body, lumps, range of healthy body weightto height toframes) can be ones only limited to certain area of the body like kidneyproblems. Much Automation developed (mostly for logistical tasks taking the workload off nurses) byIntelligent Hospital Systems Inc (ie. software programs 1. digital access topatient andprescription; 2. handling of lab equipment and automated customization ofpatient medications;3. barcode admixture preparations to decrease administration errors bybedside; 4. mimic andthereby reducing admixiture tasks; 5. Audit trail stored electronically forfuture referrence; 6.Use current pharmacy supplies of syringes, drug vails, bags etc...; 7.preparstion of admixturefrom high-throughput doses to complex patient-specific solutions; 8. Preparesyringes in aready-to-administer format with plunger depressed to eliminate air space.37. Paramedics with skype access to hospital duty doctors for diagnosis andtreatment also onlinemedicine. Possible cameras strapped to their heads (so the camera doesn't getin the way of -hands free) with removal precise zooming capabilities.38. To eradicate airbourne/waterbourne contagious diseases (ie. legionnairesdisease) we can usemembrane filters and force air through the filters ie. reverse osmosismembranes that filter 90 to99% of contaminants or boil/steam (hot enough can destory even dioxins/furansand hard todestroy prions) the air (water) before circulation and/or ultra violet thatkills pathogens.39. Large Factory outlets for any and all health aids, from prosthesis (foramputees), to mobilityaids to hearing aids, eyeglasses, walking canes for blind.40. Health Internet Portal for each and every major/common illness grouped bybody part and causeof illness to organize for mutual morale support where people who survived and/or learn to liveeven thrive with the illness reach out to new and scared patients.41. Neighborhood hotels/condos - community living - (with possible wherepatients that should bemonitored are hooked up to cardio and respiratory monitors that have real timewirelessmonitoring in the neighborhood at a central monitoring station (also withpanic button in casethey fall and can't make it to the phone) and location finding chip.42. Bring in a teacher that is qualified/experienced volunteer (or paid)...For Arts/crafts ie. knitting,cooking, painting, sculpting, arcade - possible - (video) game competitions,charades,mahjong, book reading club and discussions over tea and snacks, that cover anyand all interestsand activities. Options for staff to take such classes as night classes tomake most uses of suchresources.6
