A gearing mechanism (8) of an espagnolette fitting (1) for a window (3), a door or the like comprises a gearing-mechanism gearwheel (13) having a toothing (19) and a driving-rod-side mating toothing (20) assigned to the toothing (19) of the gearing-mechanism gearwheel (13). The gearing-mechanism gearwheel (13) located in a locking rotational position can be blocked against executing a movement in the direction of an unlocking rotational movement by means of a rotary catch (14) located in a blocking state. If the gearing-mechanism gearwheel (13) is located in the locking rotational position and the rotary catch (14) is located in the blocking state, the driving-rod-side mating toothing (20) and, via the latter, a driving rod (22) of the espagnolette fitting (1) are blocked against an unlocking movement executed under the action of an actuation, remote from the gearing-mechanism gearwheel, of the driving-rod-side mating toothing (20). Irrespective thereof, the gearing-mechanism gearwheel (13) and the driving-rod-side mating toothing (20) can be driven with an unlocking rotational movement or with an unlocking movement by a driving device (5) of the espagnolette fitting (1). For this purpose, a switching device (32) by means of which the rotary catch (14) can be transferred from the blocking state into a release state by the driving device (5) of the espagnolette fitting (1) is provided.
