The invention relates to a method for extracting pure 1,3-butadiene by extractive distillation using a selective solvent from a C4 mixture (1) comprising, in addition to 1,3-butadiene, butanes, butenes and 0.5 to 3 wt % acetylene, relative to the total weight of the C4 mixture, characterized in that in a first process step a proportion of 90 to 99 wt %, relative to the total weight of the acetylene present in the C4 mixture, is selectively hydrogenated, resulting in a partially hydrogenated C4 mixture, that is subsequently processed into pure 1,3-butadiene in further process steps by extractive distillation and using the selective solvent, wherein the acetylene remaining in the partially hydrogenated C4 mixture is discharged in the process steps following the partial hydrogenation.
