In a first aspect, there is provided a method for determining suitable entities for expanding an established causal molecular biological network, said method comprising: Providing an established causal molecular biological network, a candidate set of entities and abundance data thereof; Generating at least one intermediate expansion of said established causal molecular biological network with a defined part of the candidate set of entities by use of a computer program and by using the abundance data; Determining a measure of interrelationship for every entity of the candidate set of entities with respect to at least some of the entities of the established causal molecular biological network; Selecting entities out of the candidate set of entities based on the determined measure of interrelationship.;According to a second aspect, there is provided a method for determining significant causal relationships between entities of an established causal molecular biological network and candidate entities.;There are also provided a computer program and an apparatus, suitable for implementing the methods.
