Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for setting an exercise load of aerobic exercise equipment and estimating the energy consumption of an exerciser exercising according to the set exercise load, which are able to automatically set an exercise load of aerobic exercise equipment and supply the exercise load to the exerciser so as to maintain the exercise load set in an exercise program selected by the exerciser who exercises using aerobic exercise equipment, and to estimate the energy consumption of the exerciser according to the set exercise load. The apparatus for setting an exercise load of aerobic exercise equipment and estimating the energy consumption of an exerciser comprises a setting unit receiving body information including the age, sex, weight and height of an exerciser, and setting a target heart rate by exercise; a heart rate sensor detecting the heart rate of the exerciser; an exercise load calculating unit calculating the exercise load of the aerobic exercise equipment by using the heart rate detected in the heart rate sensor, the body information of the exerciser and the target heart rate in order to achieve the target heart rate in the preset period; and an aerobic exercise equipment driving unit driving the aerobic exercise equipment so as to provide the exerciser with the exercise load periodically calculated at the exercise load calculating unit.
