The method involves providing a magnet template (2) with an area of axially magnetized magnets on a carrier plate (1), where a pattern or lettering to be generated on the surface of a workpiece (3) or substrate is cut clearly from the surface of the magnet template. The workpiece or the substrate is placed on the magnet template to sandwich, so that the lower side of the substrate lies on the pattern or the lettering of the magnet template. The surface of the workpiece or substrate is sprinkled with a paint cogged with the ferromagnetic effect pigments. The magnetic pattern is made of permanent magnets or a magnetic rubber, particularly neodymium rubber.
