The method involves monitoring multiple safety criteria e.g. component strength, component load and crane stability, during crane operation. A permissible specific threshold value i.e. permissible specific load, is computed and monitored for each safety criterion during the crane operation based on a parameter e.g. crane configuration and/or crane movement. The criteria are divided into linear dependant and linear independent computation types for computation of a permissible total load that is computed from the specific threshold value of the criteria. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a crane (2) a crane control device (3) a data carrier comprising a set of instructions for executing a method for monitoring safety of a crane.
