The engine has an expansion piston (4) displaceable in an expansion cylinder (3). A compression piston (2) is displaceable in a compression cylinder (1). Working gas in a heat-collection device (14) absorbs heat emitted by a heat output device (18, 19). The expansion piston is expanded in the expansion cylinder. The heat is delivered in the heat output device. The compression piston is compressed in the compression cylinder. The expansion piston and the compression piston are connected with a crankshaft (8).
