The method involves driving a main rocket engine with a mixture of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, where the usage of a gas mixture is formed out of the gas chambers (11,12) of the tanks for the liquid hydrogen (1) and for the liquid oxygen. The gas mixture is burned in a burner (3) and from which a required heat quantity is recovered in a gas-heat exchanger (4). The required heat quantity is recovered by a closed circuit between the gas chamber of the tank for the liquid hydrogen and the gas-heat exchanger. An independent claim is included for an arrangement for recurring depression of a tank gas chamber for liquid hydrogen, particularly for the re-ignition of a main rocket engine.
