Coating composition comprises silicone resin and sand. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a container for molten metal, comprising an outwardly directed outer surface which is at least partially provided with a coating which comprises a polymeric binder and sand; (2) manufacturing the container for the molten metal, comprising applying a coating composition which comprises the polymeric resin and sand, on at least one portion of the outwardly directed outer surface of the container; and (3) a heat exchanger comprising a surface equipped for releasing heat to a cooling medium, which is at least partially provided with a coating which comprises silicone resin and sand exhibiting a particle size distribution of = 0.3 mm, determined according to DIN EN 933.
