Producing biogas, comprises: providing at least one solid fermenter (2) for fermenting organic solids and at least one liquid fermenter (3); adding percolate to the percolation of the organic solids in the solid fermenter and the liquid fermenter; repeatedly applying the percolate on the organic solids in the solid fermeter; collecting the percolate at a bottom of the solid fermenter and feeding back into the liquid fermenter; and controlling the chemical, biological and/or physical properties of the percolate in the liquid fermenter. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for producing the biogas, comprising the solid fermenter for the digestion of organic solids, and the liquid fermenter for receiving the percolate to the percolation of the organic solid absorbed in the solid fermenter, and a unit for controlling the chemical, biological and/or physical properties of the percolate in liquid fermenter.
