The accumulator (20) has a container (22) that comprises a phase-change heat transfer material (PWTM) (38,40) for transferring heat from a top heat exchanger (26) to an EPCM (50) and/or from the EPCM to a bottom heat exchanger (32). The boiling and the condensing point of the PWTM is set in the container, such that the PWTM is charged to a gaseous state independently in a charged state and is discharged in a liquid state independently in a discharged state by extracting the heat from the PWTM, and the distance between the exchangers and the EPCM is bridged. An independent claim is included for a method for storing and recovering heat in an EPCM.
