The method involves depositing carbon nano-tubes from an aerosol on a surface (12) of a magnet (11) such that the carbon nano-tubes deposited on the surface are detected by an optical analysis unit (18). A magnetic field is produced by a magnet unit (8) such that the carbon nano-tubes are separated on the surface by a magnetic interaction between the carbon nano-tubes and the magnetic field. An amount of material of the separated carbon nano-tubes is determined by the analysis unit such that concentration of the carbon nano-tubes in the aerosol is determined depending on the material amount. An independent claim is also included for a system for detecting carbon nano-tubes.
