The method involves detecting (100) fault operation of a brake of a brake system, and inserting (110) parking lock to brake a vehicle when fault operation of the brake is detected. The deceleration of the vehicle is initiated before the engagement of the parking lock is caused. The deceleration of the vehicle is initiated at the same time when the loading of the parking brake is initiated.
