Producing a tool (11) for metal cutting processing of workpieces, comprises (a) providing a silicon carbide powder, (b) mixing the silicon carbide powder with a organic binder, (c) molding at least one molded body from the mixture produced in the step (b), (d) carbonizing the molded body, and (e) siliconizing the molded body. An independent claim is also included for the tool, which is produced by the above mentioned method.
