The operating circuit has an electrical energy storage device (C), and a charging current electrical supply for supplying trickle charge current to a charging circuit (L). The emergency lamps (M) are operated with the stored electrical energy. A temperature sensor (T) detects the temperature of emergency lamp, while directly or indirectly detecting the temperature of the energy storage device. A control circuit (S) sets the charging current depending on the detected temperature and controls the charging current to a target value or a set value. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for operating emergency luminaire; and (2) an integrated circuit.
