The method involves generating a clamping force by an electromotive braking device having an electromechanical actuator. The position of a braking piston (6) is moved in lateral direction by the rotary movement of a spindle (4). The rotary movement of the spindle is carried out by evaluation of the position of a spindle nut (12) placed on the spindle. The information from position detecting units (13,14) are used as trigger criteria for a braking motor (3) for detecting the position of the spindle nut. An independent claim is included for a parking brake for adjusting an exerted clamping force.
