The method involves detecting deviations from a desired condition or disorder by sensors (12) during a motor vehicle operation. Information on the difference or an error input is stored in an error memory (14). An error entry is stored during the production and/or service in the error memory. A deposited error input is assigned to an error registration that identifies source of information. The error input in data blocks is patterned, where the registration forms a data block. The error registration is constructed according to Open Diagnostic Data Exchange (ODX) standard. An independent claim is also included for a motor car.
