The method involves minimizing a defined steering angle of power steering assistance (10) till the defined steering angle reaches the maximum steering angles. A steering power assistance function is reduced based on the hardness and/or the position of a buffer (20) to individual values, where the buffer is arranged on an end stop (18). An actual maximum steering angle is compared with a desired ideal steering angle to determine the hardness and position of the buffer and/or to determine the values on the power steering assistance. An independent claim is also included for a controller for power steering assistance in a vehicle i.e. motor car.
