The method involves performing control of slave lighting groups (4.1, 4.2) together with a control of a master lighting unit (4) under the consideration of stored offset. A location-specific offset of each slave lighting group to a control head of the master lighting group in connection with operation of a lighting system (2) is stored. A region is illuminated by a slave lighting groups, where the region comprises a high foreign light portion as the region illuminated by the master lighting group. The slave lighting groups are addressed with negative offset. An independent claim is also included for a device for illuminating a space.
