The method involves providing reaction chains for detecting and treating overpressure situations, and generating error reaction (115) of an actuator of a high-pressure injection system in case of detection of the overpressure situations. A temporary error reaction is generated. The temporary error reaction is maintained when the presence of the overpressure situations is acknowledged. The temporary error reaction is canceled when the presence of the overpressure situations is not acknowledged, where the temporary reaction is carried out at the beginning of a debouncing phase (110). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program for executing a method for monitoring a high pressure injection system (2) a computer program product with a program code stored on a computer-readable medium for executing a method for monitoring a high pressure injection system (3) a control device for controlling or monitoring a high pressure injection system in a self-ignition engine of a motor car.
