The method involves manufacturing a flexible printed circuit (FPC) having a top side (308), a bottom side (310), a card entry opening (302), side tabs (404A-404D, 406A-406E), and an area (402) of a card accepting device on a substrate. An integrated circuit card interface chip is integrated into the card accepting device, and module frames are fixed to the top and bottom sides of the FPC. The top and bottom sides are folded to enclose the card accepting device, where a card e.g. credit card, inserted through the card entry opening is processed by the integrated circuit card interface chip. An independent claim is also included for a secure chip card reader.
