The device (2) has a carriage (7) mounted to move on an upright (6) between positions in which the carriage is far away and brought closer to a ground. A guide element (14) is placed to pivot on the carriage along a horizontal pivot axis. A support shaft (16) is mounted to freely rotate in a tubular portion (14b) of the element. A support (17) and an orthopaedic boot (18) are mounted on the shaft and arranged to support a foot of a patient. A rotational driving unit is fixed to rotate the shaft around its axis, so as to rotate a lower limb of the patient when the foot is fixed on the support. An independent claim is also included for an assembly for positioning a hip prosthesis.
