The device has a feeler element intended to come in contact with a part to be inspected. The feeler element is carried by a rod (4) that is movably mounted in translation inside a case opposite to a magnetic sensor (50) carried by the case, where the magnetic sensor is responsive to magnetic encoding of magnetic reference marks carried by the rod, for detecting the position of the rod. The case includes a software unit for processing the position information of the rod sent by the magnetic sensor. An independent claim is also included for a post for the geometric inspection of parts.
