A device for measuring the total weight of luggage being carried in the cargo bay or luggage compartment of a vehicle (1) comprises one or more load cells (20) coupled to the floor (14) of the cargo bay (10). The total weight of luggage is determined by measuring the local load at each load cell coupled to different sections of the load floor.
