PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal distribution estimation method of an image display unit adapted to have a pixel comprising a light emitting element plurally arrayed, in which the light emitting element has a property of fall-off in luminance resulting from occurrence of degradation in accordance with a state of a heat generation.SOLUTION: A thermal distribution estimation method is configured to: for each given time, calculate an average current value corresponding to a pixel area composed of at least one pixel in an image display unit adapted to have a plurality of pixels arrayed on the basis of image data in all of an in-display surface; multiply the calculated average current value by a given current-heat conversion coefficient to calculate data on an amount of heat generation having a numerical value corresponding to the amount of heat generation converted; add the data on the amount of heat generation to a first thermal distribution table to update the first thermal distribution table; and multiply the updated first thermal distribution table by a given heat radiation coefficient after applying two-dimensional low-pass filter processing to the updated first thermal distribution table to serve as a new first thermal distribution table.
